F-86D SabreDog Dedication – We will never forget
Friday November 11, 2011 at 1:00 P.M., the dedication for the F-86D SabreDog was held. The dedication will be in Honor of All “Cold War” Airmen who gave their lives for their country, including Lt. JB Lang, Lt. John Blum, Lt. Bob Dale, Lt. John Wurtz and Lt. Joe Young of the 496th.
It was a shame that all 496th members could not attend this occasion. Mac McFarland, his wife Carol and a group of dedicated people, did a super job putting on this gathering on Veteran’s Day, 11/11/11. A gathering that can never be replicated.
After a short Introduction from Mac, an emotional Jim Ballard dedicated the airplane, honoring JB Lang, to the MAPS Museum. There was not a dry eye in the hangar! Jim recalled the day of the accident vividly and the heartache of this tragedy that changed the lives of several in attendance forever…
Many, many thanks to Mac, Carol, those that helped in any way on this restoration, and all those that came to participate on this occasion.
A momentous occasion! Five F-86D Pilots standing beside a 496th Squadron Airplane! Two wearing their original uniforms!
Veteran’s Day, 11/11/11. A great gathering!
