It was a shame that all 496th members could not attend this occasion. Mac McFarland, his wife Carol and a group of dedicated people, did a super job putting on this gathering on Veteran’s Day, 11/11/11. A gathering that can never be replicated.
After a short Introduction from Mac, an emotional Jim Ballard dedicated the airplane, honoring JB Lang, to the MAPS Museum. There was not a dry eye in the hangar! Jim recalled the day of the accident vividly and the heartache of this tragedy that changed the lives of several in attendance forever…
Many, many thanks to Mac, Carol, those that helped in any way on this restoration, and all those that came to participate on this occasion.

my brother alexander zurek was suppose to attend the event due to the flu he couldn’t make it very sad day for him he was a mechanic on the plane this meant so much to him broke his heart that he couldn’t go god bless all involved
I was one of the forty plus people attending the opening ceremony dedicating the Dog, Our Dog, to Lt Lang and the MAPS Air Museum.
What a wonderful occasion to honor our pilots, squadron and Veterans day.
The guys at the Museum did a magnificent job restoring the F-86D. I’ve never seen one that looked so good. I’m proud of the bird and I’m proud of the people that worked on her.
And last, but not least, we have to acknowledge all the time and work Mac and Carol went through to make our stay a most enjoyable one.
God bless you guys. Until later,
Ed Jesse
