Come join the celebration of the restoration of the Goodyear Drake on Saturday May 18 at 1:00. There will be a short program, refreshments and tours. The restoration crew consisted of: Crew Chief Wayne Noall, Don Niedert, Ken Olinger, Cody Mackey, Ray Hamlet, Carl Bergsneider and Larry Lewis. Special thanks to Keel Trucking (Jerry Leek), PPG Industries (Carl Riggenbach), Falls Auto Body (Greg Willis), Mike Norman, Nick Rich, Ralph Petz, Ellen Wilson, Dan Paumier, Jack Taylor, and Gary Dye. All had various roles in making the Drake restoration possible.

High School History Comes to MAPS for the second year

Thanks to the Timken Fund of the Stark Community Foundation and the John A. McAlonan Fund of the Akron Community Foundation for providing grants to bring Stark County and Summit County US History Classes to MAPS Air Museum.

PT-19 Crew close to completion

At the beginning of Spring, we asked if the PT-19 would be done by the Honor Flight Party. The answer was that they would do their best. Well, there best was outstanding. They had the aircraft put back together for the first time since it came to MAPS Air Museum. The aircraft is beautiful and the crew should be commended on their restoration.

Thanks for the hard work and making it visible to the WWII Veterans during the Honor Flight Party. I know it was important for them to see another WWII Era Plane.

Thank you to all the people who came out in the rain to support our museum. We had a wonderful turnout and there were smiles everywhere. It was a Great Day at MAPS. Thank you also to the wonderful volunteers who continue to help during these events.

We had a lot of special activities and people commented on our new airplanes and many new displays. We will also have some of our members speaking every half hour.

April 20 – MAPS Hosts Honor Flight Party

April 20, 2013 MAPS Air Museum was closed to host an all day Honor Flight event. WWII Vets were be honored from 10:00 to 2:00, then there was an evening program from 5:30 – 9:30.

Thank you for your understanding as we Thank the Greatest Generation for what they did to save our country and the world.

High Schools come to MAPS

US History Classes are again coming to MAPS Air Museum to learn about aviation history. Two grants were received for the 2012-2013 school year, one for Stark County and one for Summit County. They were received from the Stark Community Foundation and Akron Community Foundation (McAlonan Fund) respectively. Our target is to bring a total of about 3,500 students through the program.

Stark County Schools that will come are: Alliance, Canton South, McKinley, North Canton, Perry, Timken, and Tuslaw. We still have some spaces available and are in contact with some other schools to try to fill the spots.

Summit County Schools that will come are: Barberton, Norton, Manchester and Green.

We focus the program on three Ohio State Standards;

Isolationalism, Pearl Harbor Attack
Racism and Segregation, Tuskegee Airmen
Women in Industry – Women Pilots, Rosie the Riveter

We want to thank the foundations for supporting this very important educational program.
