The latest work by noted aviation artist David J. Ails depicting the moment of impact on the B-17 Flying Fortress, piloted by Lt. Budd Wentz, when it was deliberately rammed by a German Bf-109 on April 7, 1945. Although most of the B-17′s tail was destroyed, Lt. Wentz managed to fly and land the crippled bomber safely.
