Dave, Dennis and Bill are working on the Corsair’s left aft wing strut assembly. Lots of pieces.
The corroded tip of the Cutlass ailavator has been removed.
A paper template was made.
And then the aluminum tip is fitted. Some tweaking will be required.
The thin aluminum skin has become delaminated from the wood core and the rivet heads pulled out. So we installed some long screws and then dribbled epoxy into the remaining holes hoping it would spread underneath and bond the skin to the wood (left screw line). Then we applied body putty to finish it off (right lines)
Once it all curled it was sanded smooth ready for primer. Tapping on the skin indicates it is much more solid.
