A-26 Restoration Update

2/17/19 – From A-26 crew chief, Ken Ramsay:

The fuselage stars are finished.  Added the red stripe (2 photos).  Then I realized that the red stripe had not been added to the wing stars.  Saturday project.

I spent some time dusting the gunner’s compartment.  It was vacuumed some time ago, but still needed the nooks and crannies dusted.  Most of the compartments need dusting which will be accomplished over the next few weeks.

Mark and Bruce masked the USAF on the top of the right wing (photo).  Not an easy task.  Masking the USAF on the underside of the left wing will be a real challenge.

Had a number of visitors that were really interested in our A-26 and its history.

We greatly appreciate your participation!

Restoration Updates

2/10/19 – Here is an update from Ken Ramsay on activities in the Restoration Building:

More painting. Bruce and I painted 4 coats of yellow on the propeller blade tips (photo).  The top blade tip on each engine was a little dicey but no injuries other than yellow drips on a few things.  Ray gave me the paint he used on the B-26 propellers and I will use on the A-26 props.

In between painting the yellow coats, I painted the blue paint on the fuselage stars (photo).  The original blue paint was Krylon spray but I didn’t like the finish so I went and bought some water base enamel which could be rolled on giving a much better finish.  It looks good even up close.  The white needs a little touch-up and the red stripes added.

Also between yellow coats, Bruce did some more black touch-up and some yellow touch-up.

In other news.

The center vertical stabilizer has been installed (photo).

The F-102 main gear door is coming along (photo).

Restoration Update

2/6/19 – From Ken Ramsay:

On Wednesday Mark, Bruce and I spent most of the day doing touch-up painting.  Mark was on top (black), Bruce was underneath (black) and I touched up the yellow.  Ran out of black paint.

Today, Saturday, more black painting by Mark.  He applied the final coat on the top of the left wing and some other areas.

I applied masking tope to the stars and applied the first coat of blue (photo).  Will take a couple of coats to give a uniform color due to the various colors underneath (white, old blue, black).

I found an aircraft seat belt and installed it on the aft gunner’s seat (photo).

I also painted the right main gear.  The left gear was painted in the restoration building some time ago.

Tyke took some measurements of the flap drive shaft positions in anticipation of making them operable.  We need a double shafted motor or two motors back to back.

Snoopy is coming along (photo), the OV-1 has been primed (photo) and the large panel is being installed on the F-86A.
