September 16, 2022Renovation Activities ~ As of 9/28/22
September 28, 2022From Ken Ramsay: This email deals with the assembly of our F-86A Sabre, 48-263. The wings were installed last Wednesday and the wheels, brakes and vertical stabilizer tip today. My thanks to everyone who helped put the historic aircraft together.
- Turning over the left wing.
- The lift points that Ron made worked very nicely to lift the wing.
- Positioning the wing was an exact science. Very precise hole location.
- Lots of bolts and nuts to install.
- Both top and bottom.
- And the left wing is installed.
- Now the right wing.
- Chain lift working well.
- And the right wing is on.
- Dan connecting the wing tip light wires to the electrical panel.
- Vertical stabilizer and rudder tips being installed by Chet with Dave manning the fork lift.
- Left wheel and brake installed.
- 48-263 on its landing gear for the first time in over 60 years (and top photo).
- (Extra photo) This was the F-86A on its arrival to MAPS back in 2014. Over 8 years of work in the Area 51 renovation hangar.
