Renovation Activity Update ~ 8/8/19
August 8, 2019From Ken Ramsay:
Dave found out that the B-26 carried and dropped torpedoes during the war. So, we (Ordnance division) are starting to make a MK 13 torpedo. Dave and Dan found a large fuel tank out on the flight line, brought it in to restoration and started converting it from a tank to a torpedo. Dan is removing all of the electrical and other connections. Ron and I started making the tail cone on which the fins and propellers will be mounted. The 2 photos are of our cardboard mock-up. We cut a piece out of T3 aluminum, but couldn’t get it rolled properly. Dennis will see about having his friend roll it for us.
- Early stages of a MK 13 torpedo for the B-26
- The skin is being fitted to the Corsair aft fuselage. Lots of clecoes. Between the Corsair and the F-86, not too many clecoes are left.
- The bodies for the Sidewinder millines have arrived. Now the assembly begins.
- The 50 Cal for the F-86 is coming along. Fitting the barrels, etc to the housing is next.
